The Mid-Atlantic Construction Economic Update
The Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) Central Virginia Chapter presented “The Mid-Atlantic Construction Economic Update” on Thursday, September 8th at the Holiday Inn Airport in Richmond, VA.
The presenter, Mr. Anirban Basu, is the Associated Builders and Contractor’s (ABC) chief economist and he gave a very through and entertaining presentation on the current state of our economy, specifically how it relates to construction and his current forecasts for the upcoming months. According to Mr. Basu, Virginia’s economy is currently in recovery, but with the slow continuation of the economic recovery, the construction market will have a very slow and gradual increase over the next two years. Mr. Basu’s final advice was to stay continually advised of the current economic situation driving the financial markets; “the key is not to forecast well, it is to forecast often.”
The event fully met its attendance goals, with the home presentation in Richmond and two remote locations with live feeds in Virginia Beach and Altavista. Henderson, Inc. was a Gold Sponsor and had 10 employees attend. Henderson has many employees actively involved in CFMA; Jake Liebler, CFO, is the current Chapter President, and Controller Linda Cooper and Project Accountant Tina Wagner are both active members.
