Henderson, Inc. was a Gold Sponsor at this year’s MEGAvention 2012. MEGAvention was held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on August 15 -16th and co-chaired by Ellen Sanders, Henderson, Inc.’s Director of Business Development.
The event kicked off with a golf tournament in which the Henderson, Inc. foursome took first place in the second flight. The tournament was followed by a reception at the Princess Anne Country Club and then a cocktail party at the Hilton Sky Bar, sponsored by Henderson, Inc.

During one of the Beyond the Building Committee meetings, the committee members were discussing what were the most important factors for them personally in the workplace. The reoccurring theme revolved around the word trust. This was an interesting finding, given the construction market we have all been operating in for the last few years has suffered a down turn and has in some way affected us all.
Henderson enters team in Vineyards of Williamsburg 5k
Henderson entered a team of 10 people in The Vineyards of Williamsburg 5k on Sunday, August 12. Proceeds from the race benefited Child Development Resources (CDR), a United Way partner agency.
The scenic 5k course went through The Vineyards of Williamsburg. Henderson’s team was comprised of seasoned runners, leisurely walkers, and first time 5k participants. A fun time was had by all while promoting Henderson’s Wellness initiative.
Henderson Becomes SWaM Certified
Henderson, Inc. would like to announce that we have recently completed all necessary requirements to become Small, Women-owned, and Minority-Owned Business (SWaM) Certified through the Virginia Department of Minority Business Enterprise (DMBE).
This designation qualifies Henderson for small-business set aside projects and allows us to fulfill SWaM and DMBE requirements on future projects.
Henderson hosts SMPS event, defines Beyond the Building
Henderson hosted a Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Virginia chapter webinar event on Tuesday, July 24th. A group of ten marketers in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry gathered in Henderson’s conference room for an educational webinar entitled: Developing a Differentiation Strategy: Marketing Your Innovative Practices.
This webinar topic was very timely as Henderson’s Beyond the Building committee has been working to define Henderson’s motto “Beyond the Building” and how that motto differentiates us in the construction industry.
Henderson’s Safety Director participates in ABC Award Luncheon
Henderson’s Safety Director Dave Thompson participated in the ABC Annual Safety Award luncheon on Friday, July 20th in Virginia Beach.
Dave served on a selection committee and handed out awards at the annual luncheon. He is also a member of ABC and serves on the ABC Safety Committee.
Henderson presents at DBIA June meeting
Henderson President Bill Strack, along with Guernsey Tingle Architects (GTA) President Tom Tingle, AIA, and Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) Director of Engineering Bruce Husselbee, P.E., gave a presentation on the recently completed HRSD North Shore Maintenance Facility project at the June DBIA meeting on Tuesday, June 26 in Virginia Beach.
Beyond the Building Committee Progress Report

As previously mentioned, the Beyond the Building (BTB) committee was formed to work on various ways to enhance Henderson and address the majority concerns of our employees.
Thus far, the committee has sponsored a cornhole tournament event, and made some changes to the safety drawing. We are currently working hard on developing a Mentorship Program for our company and brainstorming various other topics as well.
HRACRE 20th Annual Golf Outing
Henderson, Inc. was a Gold Sponsor of HRACRE’s Golf Outing at Williamsburg National Golf Course on Thursday, June 14. Henderson also sponsored a beverage cart at the tournament.
Henderson’s foursome, including Vice President Mike Van Sickel, shot a score of 57 (-15) and tied for first place in their flight. After matching up the scorecards Henderson’s team ended up third in the four-man captain’s choice format tournament.
Cove Cafe Grand Opening
Williamsburg Landing hosted a grand opening event at the recently renovated Cove Café on Tuesday, June 5. Henderson, Inc. was in attendance to support and congratulate our client and enjoy the cocktails and hors d'oeuvres that were prepared in the newly renovated kitchen.
